BCBA Annual Tournament – A Curtain Raiser

Sukrit Vijayakar

Let me start off by wishing all those who celebrate the festival, a very happy Dusshera (Vijayadashmi / Bijoya), a festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil. May all good forces conquer the pandemic and its side effects and may we return to live events sooner rather than later.

Tomorrow, the BCBA is presenting its annual event in a Swiss Pairs format. The response to that so far has been extremely heartening with over 100 pairs registering to play.

One person had echoed the voices of many perhaps when he suggested that the organizers consider increasing the number of prizes. That suggestion was forwarded to the BCBA who have responded positively, but perhaps not in the way envisaged by the requester.

BCBA is of the opinion that encouragement needs to be given to players who don't have the wherewithal to compete against the top players of the country and are mainly there to enjoy themselves. Accordingly, BCBA has offered prizes for the best pair where both players have less than 100 Master Points. Further, they have also decided to award a prize to the best mixed pair in both categories.

If we get even more entries, it is possible we can convince BCBA to put up not only more prizes for a broader public than the top echelon of players, but also increase the number of open prizes in each section.

We hope that those of you who have not registered as yet are enthused to do so soon. Entries close around 830 pm today.

This is where you click to register for the event.
