Ravindra Bhave – RIP

Ravindra Bhave

The news of death is always shattering but news of the sad demise of Ravindra Bhave has left every bridge lover in Pune shocked and stunned.

Ravindra was one of the few in Pune who, nearly 40 years ago, selflessly dedicated himself for the good of Bridge.

After graduation, he started his career at the Serum Institute of India and later joined Voltas. He retired from there in 2019.

While he was a very good player, he opted to work for the benefit of Pune bridge and acquired skills in the aspects of scoring and deal preparation. He went on to be a VU Graph operator and was a familiar figure at all major tournaments conducted in the country.

I personally first came in touch with him during the Asia Cup 2018. He was my room mate and was a very pleasant person to be with. Even during the pandemic, he was an eager assistant for BridgeFromHome activities helping to set up matches when we conducted events on BBO.

His presence will be missed by the entire bridge fraternity of the country. He is survived by his wife and a son. I am sure all of you will join me in paying condolences to his family.
