Ladies and Gentlemen,
There is a basic concept in Bridge, which everyone agrees but is generally flouted! You don't open when there is no rebid 🙃. Unlike Bridge though, the pandemic has no such rule. Covid, it seems, has many re- bids, like it or not 😭
Srirangam, near Trichy, is a town very popular for their hospitality and exotic food! They have a festival every year called "Sorga Vasal", which means "Door to Heaven" in the famous temple at Srirangam once a year during New Year's Eve.
Srirangam also conducts an annual bridge tourney. They had decided to have it live this year in December, but have now reversed it to on line - thanks to Omicron
The " Sorga vasal" of Srirangam* has to wait, after all. It was a closure bid dictated by nature or the God Almighty,if you prefer.
No doubt, we are all restless - waiting for the day to re- open like eager kids looking forward to the days of "Back to school "! But you cannot make a jump overcall in panic. Agreed that we are all in hibernation, waiting for a chance to manufacture a bid when there is none!
Wiser counsel should prevail - both in pandemic and Bridge. If you are trigger-happy, well you can be shot out 😢
Oh my cronies of the game, bide your time till this new variant " Omicron "is deciphered. Like in Bridge, any new gadget, you have to first evolve a defensive bid!
So get off the line friends, better to be on line, alive and kicking instead of being live on a dead end!
Wait for the wagon and the New year will bring cheers and a new dawn to replace the dusk.
Happy bridging ( online alright)
