KK Memorial Day 2

Sukrit Vijayakar

Swiss League

Team Jiya (Anirban Sarkar - Baskar ganguly - Bhaskar Sarcar - Kachchu - Partha Banerjee - Sujan Choudhury) stormed to the top of the Swiss League table with a strong performance throughout. In 8 rounds, in which they totaled 112.14 VPs, their lowest score was 9.16. An extremely consistent performance.

In second place, with 108.49 VPs was I Doctors. (Ashok Bhavnani, Deven Doshi, Shrikant Tembe, Dr. Rajul Dalal, Sanjoy Bhattacharya, Dr. K Srinivas, S.K. Iyengar). Their second place is very creditable after a huge loss against Jiya in Round 2.

We are particularly chuffed with the qualification of Team IndoCan (Abdi naffar - Aliff Fazelbhoy - Anurag Pandey - Moti Thadani - Nitin Vaidya - Satish Govind Diwanji). You will notice that there is not a single big name in this team and hence we salute their performance even harder.

The full results can be seen here.

Board 61 in Round 8 (reproduced alongside) was responsible for a lot of Swings. At least half the teams exchanged 15 imps or more on the board. We would welcome an analysis of the board.

This is, regrettably, beyond the bandwidth as well as the skill set of this author. However, it is fascinating to note such a huge swing on so many tables.

Incidentally, this is a good time to look at the Double Dummy Solver feature of RealBridge. Within RealBridge, if you look at the result of any board, you will see a button - DDs. If you toggle it on, you will see that 4S can be defeated on a diamond lead. After cashing the diamonds, East backs a club and collects a diamond ruff.

You can also go to the traveler of the board and examine what other contracts are possible. The traveler for this board will show that EW can make 11 tricks from either hand in clubs.

The super league gets under way at 10 am today. It will be available for kibitzing, with a 30 minute delay on the RealBridge Kibitzing Server

IMP Pairs

72 pairs have registered for the IMP pairs. This will be played today in 2 sets of 20 boards each at 10:30 am and 4:00 pm. Once again, in response to the overwhelming participation, we have increased the prizes by 25% to a total of Rs. 30,000. We look forward to an exciting event. We once again thank all of you for your phenomenal response.
