Ladies and Gentlemen,
Madurai - the name itself is synonymous with culture, history, civilization, chivalry and challenge!
The city was put firmly on the Bridge map of the country by Late RR ( R. Ratnam of TVS family). The ever benevolent, philanthropic and industrious RR converted a bridge tournament to a "Bridge Festival"!
In the 70's and 80's Madurai - TVS bridge festival was made a Hallmark in the bridge calendar. RR set the standards and quality so high that no bridge player worth his salt could say "Pass" to the Madurai event.
50 years down, a formidable combo of HCL & TNBA have come together to "Bridge the Gap", so to speak. From 28-30 July, HCL will be sponsoring the Tamil Nadu State Championships, which will be conducted in Madurai.
Come July, an army of Bridge players will march to Madurai, I am sure. They will be bidding to the hilt for the coveted places on the podium!
It is always hot in Madurai - it will get hotter at the end of July with the intense heat of competition brought to the tables.
Let us pray and hope that this impending alliance of HCL - TNBA will set new and higher standards.
If they surpass "RR standards", I am sure he will only be happy and smiling, because he sowed the seed first.
The onus is on us, bridge mates!
