Ladies and Gentlemen,
Of late some familiar names are either missing or getting divorced or deserting their hither-to alma mater teams to find new pastures.
We have witnessed this phenomenon in the top rungs of Indian bridge where at least three of the top teams have literally been recast.
I wonder, is bridge matrimony going through an era of "Divorces", so to speak?
What does this augur for the sport? Would it be a case of "A new broom sweeping well "? Or would formulating new partnerships require lots of reinvestment and thus take time to bear fruit, if at all?
In my opinion, this is a welcome trend, because
- New partnerships bring a breath of fresh air and new thinking
- Traditional partnerships may develop a sense of averse over a period
- The game needs new experimentations and adventures for its own betterment
All said and done, there is always an excitement in new wedlock and both partners vie with each other to impress the other 🙂. What's more, all these new partnerships seem to be working fairly successfully!
The trend seems to be predictable. You want to win, better choose a new and unknown partner!
Happy bridging ,
VNR
