Pink-a-bridge

Priyanka Gulati

I recently saw pictures of Milind Soman at the Mavericks Premier League, and I couldn't help but reflect on his remarkable influence. While most recognize him as an actor and model, we women see him through a different lens.

Milind is the face of Pinkathon, the driving force behind making running not just accessible but cool for women. He’s the one who has encouraged so many of us to lace up our shoes and hit the road with confidence, transforming what was once a male-dominated activity into a celebration of strength, resilience, and sisterhood.

So it was little surprise that his presence at the Mavericks Premier League brought with it a wave of inspiration and inclusivity.

And then, there was Chitrangda , the Bollywood star known for her mesmerizing screen presence and elegance. With her every move, she embodies a blend of strength and grace, making her a true icon of modern Indian cinema. As she sprinkled the pink powder at the event, it was more than just a ceremonial gesture; it was a powerful statement—a tribute to the resilience, beauty, and spirit of women everywhere. Chitrangda's presence, alongside Milind, further underscored the event's message of empowerment and inclusivity.

It was almost poetic that both teams in the finals featured a woman; and not just any women, but the Queens of Delhi—Kiran Nadar and Gopika Tandon.

These two powerhouses have shattered ceilings. Their success in this tournament isn't just about winning; it's about representing the growing presence of women in what has traditionally been a male-dominated sport.

The game is still live, but no matter the outcome, we women are reveling in the shades of pink that have graced the finals.

It’s more than just a color; it’s a statement, a movement, and a victory for all of us who have been inspired to pursue our passions, whether on the track or at the bridge table.

And speaking of bridge, we can’t overlook Subodh Maskara, the man who has done so much to support and promote the game. Subodh is not just a bridge player; he's a visionary, a sponsor, and a personality who brings a unique energy.

His Facebook description reads, “They laugh at me cause I’m different. I laugh at them as they are all the same,” a phrase that perfectly captures his unapologetic approach to life and the game. Subodh’s sponsorship of the Mavericks Premier League is a testament to his commitment to making bridge more than just a game.

As the final moves toward its conclusion, one thing is clear: the presence of icons like Milind Soman has elevated this event into something truly special. With more women at the forefront and more people like Subodh pushing the boundaries.

As the final moves toward its conclusion, one thing is clear: the presence of icons like Milind Soman has elevated this event into something truly special. With more women at the forefront and more people like Subodh pushing the boundaries, bridge is shedding its old image and embracing a new era of inclusivity and excitement.

But what if this synergy didn’t stop at the bridge table? Imagine the impact of a collaboration between Milind, Subodh, and Chitrangda—three visionaries, each with a passion for breaking boundaries and inspiring change. Together, they could create a film that brings the story of bridge to life, not just as a game, but as a powerful metaphor for strategy, connection, and resilience.

Picture it: a cinematic journey that weaves together the intensity of competition, the elegance of the game, and the emotional highs and lows that come with every hand played. The audience wouldn’t just watch—they’d feel the tension, the camaraderie, the triumphs, and the heartbreaks. It would be a story told with the same passion that Milind brings to his marathons, the grace that Chitrangada exudes on screen, and the unique perspective that Subodh injects into everything like a maverick.

And if Milind can make running cool for women, imagine what he could do for bridge. Perhaps it’s time for him to take on a new role—as the brand ambassador for bridge. After all, if anyone can make a traditionally staid game exciting and inclusive, it’s Milind Soman

Who knows, maybe next year we'll see him running laps around the bridge table—now that’s a marathon worth watching!
