Some more of Debashis's friends would like to tell us more about him and their relationship with him.
We are including below a write up by Anirban Mitra, his first partner. It is a tad long and we don't feel that we can do justice to it by editing it. We are therefore, publishing it exactly as he sent it. We are sure you will find the article not only heartfelt, but truly interesting as we did.
Another partner of his, Sourendra Coomer Dutt has this to say about him
Inu was my childhood friend. His home was nearby at Azad Hind Bag (Hedua) a big park situated at North Calcutta. He used to play bridge there relentlessly through out the day under a permanent shed.
His fans used to kibitz his magical play of cards, both hand play and defense. All his bridge excellence was learned by experience rather than by reading any books. He could excel at playing difficult squeezes, end plays, throw ins, combination plays, deceptive plays (you name the technique) which even good players may not be have been able to execute double dummy. He could think bridge at lighting speed.
He had a soft corner for me and used to visit our home frequently. He married late in life, so he leaves behind him a a much younger son. He used to ring me almost every morning around 8.30am and discuss about bridge news and asked for suggestions about his health (as I have acute diabetics and heart problems). He was also suffering from sleep apnea. His close relative was admitted in AMRI and he rang me up just the previous day worrying about the bills compounded in 5 days only. I assured him that I would request Mr. Vibas Todi in this regard as it was run by some of his family members. He was sincerely very worried, but he never complained about his health.
This year he was contracted to play in Bangur Cement for the whole year. But alas, he left totally without any hint. I lost my bridge partner and best friend.
Bye Inu and rest in peace wherever you be.
Love
The love for Inu comes shining through and we were compelled to present these tributes to his memory.
