Robotic un-intelligence!

V N Ramamoorthy

Ladies and Gentlemen,

There was a time when people used to ask "Not playing?" and the usual response was "Yet to find a partner".

But not any more. Especially in the on-line version of the game at least.

The human-found robots are available, at a price of peanuts or even free. A handful of players, I have observed, prefer robots to human partners 🙃

I have played many times with robots (not out of choice but out of compulsion 😢). But always wondered how my partner would look like?

Is it a box (round or square?) or a contraption with a snail's head and wires protruding? Or an Alexa or Siri?

When the Robot is declarer, I watch it's hand play with awe! It does things which you cannot surmise! Quite often it makes most idiotic moves ( according to me rr you) - but succeeds! How, you wonder 🤔

Best part of playing with a robot is you are spared from saying mechanical things like "GLP, WPP Or Sorry P"!

In your learning days, your bridge seniors and gurus must have chided you "Don't play mechanically, try to think before you bid or play" . But you can't say that to a robot which plays mechanically - and it is not a "Civil" thing to chide an electrical contraption without emotions 😅

The artificial intelligence is after all an extension of the human brain. It is a "brain-child" of human intelligence with no grey matter 😃
You have witnessed two humans pitted against two robots or you and your partner robot against two robots.

What happens when all four players on the table are robots? Maybe a time will come when you have a pet robot like a race horse and you put your pet in the tourney with a wager 😍

Quite an "Un- intelligent" thinking, you may say!

Happy bridging,

Cheers
VNR

  • Your statement: Quote The artificial intelligence is after all an extension of the human brain. It is a "brain-child" of human intelligence with no grey matter 😃 Unquote got me thinking. Isn't artificial intelligence able to improve on its own? (it learns by getting feedback, just like you or me). So can we say it has no 'grey matter'? I feel, that just as a human improves by experience, the AI program continuously improves, albeit at a much faster pace, since it's a computer, which can function 24 x 7, unlike a human brain, which needs to rest and relax. Also, unlike humans, robots never repeat the same mistake - so I feel that it will eventually be far superior to the human brain.
