Sanjay Damle Memorial – A curtain raiser

The Sanjay Damle Memorial event gets under way tomorrow. You can see him in the centre of the photograph holding a trophy which was won by his team. As we have mentioned before, Arun Bapat was his regular partner for several years.

He was part of a team called UBA (M). UBA stood for United Bridge Association. The M stood for one of their staunchest supporters, a lady known as Shaila Mahajan. Old timers would have no problems remembering her and her husband who used to field a pretty strong team themselves.

I was fortunate to have him as a team mate in a couple of the last long events he played before death cruelly took him from among our midst. At any rate, in the state of Maharashtra, he stood tall among all the many heroes the state has produced.

First of all, on behalf of both TDBA and BridgeFromHome, I would like to thank all of you for the tremendous response this event has generated. We are aware that it has come notwithstanding severe competition from both international and local events and words cannot express our gratitude at your participation.

As of now, around 30 teams have registered for the event. We have announced 6 qualifiers from the field. If the number of participating teams crosses 36, we will increase the number of qualifiers to 8. Of course, the format will have to be adapted suitably to ensure completion of the event by Sunday.

Entries for the teams event will close tomorrow around noon. We look forward to even greater participation.
The registration links for this, and other BFH events are available after this article

Once again, a huge thank you from all of us!
