Sounds of Silence

V N Ramamoorthy

This year, Diwali, pre-Diwali and post Diwali were all comparatively quieter. A similar trend is noticeable in Bridge too, a trend that is encouraging.

There was a time when there was no Bridge without noise - from players, kibitzers, organizers and even Directors ( poor guys, had to shout above the din 😒)!

Your bridge proficiency was measured in direct proportion to the noise you could make - on and off the table. The louder one talked or argued, the better a player the you were supposed to be (and vice versa?). I used to wonder - a better player πŸ™ƒ, for the better or worse of the game!

Post mortems had no resemblance to the medical one, nor were they clinical.... Mostly they was Vocal πŸ˜‚

Things have quietened down a lot, especially after the introduction of screens, bidding boxes etc. And of course, now the advent of online - bridge 😌

Cheers
