A Three Legged Race

V N Ramamoorthy

Ladies and Gentlemen,

"Bridge is a three-legged race with two heads! "

Sometimes you wish you are an Octopus, with just one head and multi-pronged (do you call them arms or legs?). In one sense you have to be like an octopus on the Bridge table waiting for either gullible prey, or to get your adversary in a vice-like death trap!

Unfortunately this game is a three- legged race and you have to perforce use two heads 😌.

If you are lucky you get your "Right" Leg tied nicely with the Left of your partner. You can hobble along in sync to the podium! Quite often though, you get tied up to the wrong side and you tumble and fall like Humpty Dumpty 😂

It is all hunky dory one day and your partnership works like a pair of synchronised swimmers. You score up your sixes and sevens like a well practiced duo in a ballet.

And there are days when you are out of step & fall in sixes and sevens - literally like a pack of cards  pun intended!).

It is easier said than done. The task of counting to 13 in 4 suits ( without an abacus) looks intimidating with 52 shades ( read cards) of Grey!

Bridge partnership is not like matrimony - the marital bliss can be short lived like a honeymoon and before you hardly finish saying "I do" , you end up in a divorce without alimony 😭

Moral of the story? Well bridge has no morals, polygamy is legal. And when you get tied up with the wrong legs, you are un- enviably " Up **-creek " without a paddle 🤣

But the temptation to tie up & sin started a long way back with Adam & Eve .

No denying the fact that the bridge apple is always tempting. But beware of that snake in the garden of Eden!

Happy racing in Bridge
