The primary objective of writing this post is to express deep and undying gratitude to all the participants and other friends who somehow could not make it yesterday.
We had 66 pairs celebrating the festival with their partners and this writer felt that they regarded BridgeFromHome as one of their Valentine's as well.
What started out initially as a guaranteed prize money of Rs. 6,000, a small offering from hour end, burgeoned into prizes in excess of Rs. 15,000 as more and more of you decided to spend time with us.
The top 8 participants were awarded prizes for their overall performance. The top spot was secured by Binod Shaw and Sanjit Dey. Subhash Bhavnani and TV Ramani were the runners up.
In addition to this, we gave 5 more prizes during the tournament of Rs. 750 each. These prizes (and their winners in brackets) were for
- The Best Mixed Pair (Chan Yiu Lin and Rajendra Krishnan)
- The Best Ladies Pair (Devi Bhatnagar and Tara Laroia)
- The leader after 5 rounds (Subhash Bhavnani and T V Ramani)
- The first redoubled contract (Dibyojyoti Saha and Prithviraj Ghosh)
- The first grand slam (Prakash Gupta and Probhat Bandhu)
The grand slam occurred on the last board. Indeed a couple of players bid it (and correctly so) figuring they may as well go for the grand slam prize given that the probability of their winning a regular prize was low.
We will be distributing the prizes in a day or two as usual.
In the meanwhile, here is what the week has in store for us
We hope that all of you will respond as enthusiastically as you have done in the past and make this a memorable event.
