52 Shades of Grey

V N Ramamoorthy

The title of today's blog is a play on the title of a famous movie.

I ventured into this game in 1972. So it is the Golden Jubilee of my having entered the world of 52 cards. Is it a matter for celebration or despondence?

It depends on how you (and you alone) "Feel" about the whole thing. After all, elation and delusion are two sides of the same coin, eh?

It is normal to go "Grey" at 52 or even earlier. But for bridge players, you start greying from the day you wade into this world of 52 cards!

All that matters is your grey matter. Shady argument, you may say, but ultimately are you a shade better than the majority is what matters 🙃

Some players say that they play bridge when they have nothing better to do. For me, I beg to differ - in the sense that if you have nothing to do, do not do it on bridge table 😂

True there are different shades (or types) of bridge for you to pick from. Online or Live, Social bridge, Relaxed bridge, Club bridge, Tournament bridge and rubber bridge - with or without stakes - take your pick!

Ultimately what matters is whether you come out colorful or remain grey in the shady area. Be your own judge.

The 52 cards can weave a magic for the pursuit of four suits with that so called "Unlucky" 13 cards which is often 'tricky' to tackle 😢

Enough is enough, that's it, I am done you may say. Only to find yourself back at the table next day without even a semblance of remorse 😇

This pandemic has no end, I tell you, you remain bewitched for ever!

Pick your brains, comrades, it is definitely a grey matter!

Happy bridging,

VNR

  1. I like your comment: Quote: Some players say that they play bridge when they have nothing better to do. For me, I beg to differ – in the sense that if you have nothing to do, do not do it on bridge table – unquote. I am also of the opinion that Bridge, unlike many other card games, is not for casual players. Unless you are really concentrating on the game, there is no point in taking this up…

  2. Thank you Mini.
I remember meeting you at Coonoor about 15 years back as a rookie player. From then you have made great strides 👌✌
All credit go to your grey matter 🥰
