W S Sundaresan Memorial

The W S Sundaresan Memorial event, sponsored by the W S Sundaresan and W S Subramanian families was conducted over the weekend.

At the outset, we would like to thank both families for sponsoring this beautiful event online for the people of India. On their behalf, I would like to share our profound gratitude to the sponsors.

We present below a short report of the same

Swiss Teams

The Swiss Teams event attracted 32 teams. A few of the top players were missing as they were participating in the recently concluded After 8 rounds of 10 boards each, the following teams qualified for the Super League.

We would like to make special mention of the team Tarams. Their team members are

Ratna Tadepalli, Ramesh Srinivasan, Raj Jayram, Deepak Pramanik, M K Mohankrishnan, Vijau Ramchandran and Sundar Sekar Polavaram.

It comprises of players who you would not ordinarily hear of in a tournament of national stature. Indeed, how many of you who don't reside in Bangalore are aware of these bridge players? It is really heartening to see a team like this qualify. We hope to see you repeating your performance far more regularly, even frequently!

In the super league, Team Squid Game (who must have adopted the name for NFTs) from Singapore ended up clear winners, more than 7 VPs ahead of the second placed Team Burzen.

Match Point Pairs

The match point pairs attracted 52 entrants. Once again, we had an uncommon, albeit an extremely popular pair in the form of Tarun Singhal and Arvind Jain winning the event just nosing ahead of Pinaki Khan and Animesh Majumdar

Once again, special mention must be made of Ms. Veena Bobb. This lady from Kolkata has been featuring on the leader boards in many an event without any remarkable, or even steady partner. We believe she has the potential to do extremely well for the country if properly groomed and trained.

Upcoming event

We will now be taking a break for the rest of the month, unless you inspire us to do something for all of you. In the first week of May, we have planned a tournament,  J M Shah Memorial Tournament starting 5th May, 2022. We invite all of you to participate in the tournament in large numbers.

Concluding remarks

We sign off by once again thanking the sponsors of the event and, of course, all of you without whom the event would not have been the success it was.
