The 6 o’ clock itch

V N Ramamoorthy

Ladies and Gentlemen

Being fanatic is part of human psyche. Each one to his own chosen poison, may be.

We all have heard of the "Seven year itch" - but that is for the infidels.
Bridge players have similar, and far more frequent affliction!

There are many addicts - like crossword buffs, Sudoku fans etc. The day doesn't start if they don't indulge at 6 am every morning. When the newspaper arrives, they straight away turn to that page with crossword puzzle or sudoku. All other happenings in the world can wait 🙃.

Come 6 o' clock in the evening or a few minutes before, the itch takes over. You behave like an addicted tippler deprived of his aqua fina.

Some days you are a wee bit late and the hands shiver, the eyes twitch and you are on your nerves. The day's quota is over and the known victims are already booked 😢

You don't give up. You scan the partnership desk with great fervor akin to an eligible bachelor scouting the matrimonial column. You click in the partnership desk and say a small prayer that the powers that maybe are kind to increase the limit 🙂. You sooth your nerves by consoling yourself that "So what, I can still kibitz"..😌

There is no escaping this pandemic, for sure.
Unfortunately there is no vaccine including booster for this itch except for a session of bridge 😭

Forge ahead and succumb to the itch!

Happy bridging,

Cheers
VNR
