Haste makes Waste

V N Ramamoorthy

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The game of bridge is benevolent to both the declarer and defenders, equally!

Clues, informations and opportunities are all available for the asking and yet...

Philip Alder in his recent column advises "Remember the bidding". It applies equally to the declarer and the defenders.

You might have read a plethora of books and columns suggesting you to think before you act.

When should you begin to think? Obviously at the beginning 🙂

As for the declarer, when the lead is made and the dummy is spread, that is the "Golden minute" , to think.

Funnily, same applies to the defenders as well!

If you "Hurry" to play at the first trick that is a sure recipe for worry later 😥

A little time spent at the start will save a lot of time and worries later.

Especially when an opponent does something unusual, don't be in a hurry. Ask yourself why at every turn before committing yourselves.

"Hurry now and worry soon!" A little caution now, saves a lot of miseries later 😌

So, hurry - to think and not to play. A stitch in time saves nine!

Happy "Thinking" Bridge,

Cheers
VNR
