AI and Bridge

V N Ramamoorthy

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The game of Bridge, like Chess, has been recognised as a mind sport.

The beauty lies in the infinite possibilities one can imagine ( or should I say un- imagine?) with 52 cards! It is mind boggling but human minds can master the game by deciphering and discerning 🙂

With the advent of on line bridge, there is a new dimension : Robots created by human, sometime surpassing the capabilities of a human!

The original intelligence creates an artificial one! Now you are not only required to understand, decipher and resolve artificial bids but also the AI on the prowl 😢

But it looks like the worse is yet to come, may be?

Recent news is the human scientists have broken the barrier by creating AI which can ( hold your breath) "Read human thoughts" 🤔

Alas, you can no longer think with an AI bot snooping around! The moment you think of a bid, a line of play, or a defense, it will be all in the open!

You may sit there at the bridge table all naked, stripped of all ideas and thoughts! The only solace is others also will be on the same boat!

The new advice to budding bridgers may go like "Don't think while bidding and playing - the AI may eavesdrop, sorry brain drop "... 😂😢

You normally hear a player chiding his partner "Can't you think and play?" but not any more. The new dialogue will be "Partner, can't you please NOT think before bidding or play "😭

Earlier I blogged " A dollar for your first thought, a penny for your second thought ". The new age advice will be "A million for No thought "! 😘🤣

The game had a genuine past, perfect present and may be an imperfect future?

Think about! Oops.. Don't think about it 🙂

Happy bridging,

Cheers
VNR
