Double – speak

V N Ramamoorthy

Ladies and Gentlemen,

" Revised vocabulary of Bridge language "!

There exists a special language used exclusively by Bridge fraternity. And there are unique abbreviations with hidden meaning!

Most innocuous looking or sounding - but with deep meanings, only if you care to understand๐Ÿ˜‰

Bridge language has overtaken the social media - in that sense - a senseless diatribe of ramblings ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Abbreviations are the order of the day - best understood only if you can read / see through their hidden meanings.

It is my endeavour to shed some light for the benefit of bridge public at large! Here we go :

GLP : I have managed to push you down the " S**T" creek, let me see how you survive

TYP : Now that you have done me in, let me try my best

OKP : I am stuck with you today, let me make the best of bad bargain ๐Ÿ˜‚

WDP: Any Tom, Dick Or Harry could do it better

Sorry P : It could have been worse, so don't lecture me later

WDO : Grrrrrrr! Nothing great, I wish you get a bottom in the next board!

What is 1N / Dbl? : ( Silence) meaning, I wish I knew

What is your 2NT : simple one word answer " Unusual" meaning my usual kite flying, he he๐Ÿ˜Œ

What are your leads? : ( Long silence) honestly meaning "Generally confusing and often losing"๐Ÿ˜…@
(@ credit : Burma Shankar who originated this unique explanation on the table!)

Txp last deal : Thank god, the ordeal is over. My search for a new partner starts now ๐Ÿ˜‡

What is your 1D ( for Precision players) : Explained " Could be short " - meaning I am trying to short change you!

Dbl/ Rdbl ( after 3 passes) : I am hoping to middle the proceedings

"What is your system ( after the end of bidding)" : Pregnant silence - meaning " He he.. You have a hope! Catch me if you can ๐Ÿ˜‰

"Director please" : My last resort to salvage the board!

Happy bridging,
