Dr KK Bhatnagar Memorial National Mixed Pairs Tournament
The tournament started off on Friday with 70 pairs. After 2 elimination sessions of 18 boards, 36 pairs qualified for the next elimination.
The 36 pairs played 2 sessions of 18 rounds each and, at the end of 36 boards, 18 pairs qualified for the finals. The list of finalists, along with the carry over they have earned, is as given alongside.
Our heart goes out to 3 pairs viz
- Mrs. Singh & Ambrish Wadera (11)
- Atul Rai & Dr. Usha Kothari (12)
- Subhash Bhavnani & Priya Balasubramanian (14)
These pairs had qualified for the finals but, due to the condition about the finals only being open to resident Indian citizens, could not play in the finals.
There have been many representations made by people that such pairs should be eligible to participate in the finals and win prizes but ineligible for ranking points.
The BFI has taken these representations under advice and is expected to revisit the issue in the near future.
BFI has organized a consolation pairs event for the non qualifiers and over 40 players are participating in this event.

I must say I am astounded by the maturity of his presentation and clarity of thought. And then, I tell myself "Why should I be?". This kind of thought clarity is a must for playing bridge at the top level.
