Reflections on FNCC Hyderabad

The FNCC championships in Hyderabad concluded successfully yesterday. Here are a few reflections (all my own work).

First, the encomiums. The hospitality at the event was tremendous. Not enough can be said about the quality and food offered here. Indeed, if one compares it to other events featuring ranking points (for teams), this is arguably the best value for money event being conducted on the circuit.

Unfortunately, the participation, at a total of 40 appeared muted. This could be because of the upcoming Behuria Memorial event coming up next weekend with both cannibalizing into each other. This is going to be a continuous feature going forward as well with a tremendous enthusiasm being demonstrated for conducting such events.

While the overall organization of the event was simply superb, there are a few suggestions, all of which may please be taken as entirely constructive.

The first point that struck us was the unavailability of scores on any website. For a tournament of its stature, this is a glaring lacuna. Had we been aware, I am sure we would not have hesitated to offer the BFH website as a point for showing results.

The second point was the unavailability of screens for the knock out stage of the event. Almost all major events use screens at that stage and it is imperative that this should be implemented from the next edition of this event.

A third observation was that 2 directors attending 40 tables was probably a bit low. The usual norm is one director per 10 tables.

The next point, and this probably is purely a personal opinion, is that in the interest of conducting as many events as possible, the duration of each event was too small. For instance, it may have been better to hold a two session elimination for the match point pairs rather than a single session elimination and a single session IMP pairs. The non qualifiers would then play a two session board a match event.

We would like to reiterate that that above are just observations rather than criticism of any sort.

  1. You r observation is fully right, I accepting your all points
But, if I neglect all those remarks- FNCC is one the best tourney of india- ever I seen.
Great Hospitality, great management and a super venue with mix of AC Banquete and Natural Garden- just wonderful

    1. We have agreed with all your points at the very beginning. The suggestions are merely to make it an even greater event!
