Friendly Foe

Players near and yonder,
Is Bridge akin to a war game, they oft ponder?

With an arsenal of strategies, the next move in their minds brew,
Players then play offensive or defensive, to tame their opponent shrew!

Both armies pitched in battles figuratively, they scratch and claw at each other,
Though sometimes done under the pretext of a smiling cover,

In the arena of competitive bridge, the bold will hold the edge,
To show no mercy against toughest opponents, is what players are made to pledge,

In my zeal to learn the intricacies of this strategy game,
Have I become a cold player, opponents would like to tame?

In my quest to win against all odds, have I become belligerent, aggressive and assertive?
Thinking about bridge day and night, have I become obsessive ?

To be humble, affable, gracious and kind, will my game lose it’s shine?
All this confusion is leading me straight to a glass of wine,
Nonetheless Bridge will always remain my sunshine….
