Bridge is a Gentleman's game ...Bridge was Kanwaljit 's game. He was the perfect Gentleman. I met Kanwaljit 15 years ago and it was a friendship formed without any questions.
At every turn he never failed to amaze me with his thoughtfulness towards people and the game. He was a person who could reach across generations and empathise with each one. As BFI Vice President, he championed the cause of women's bridge.
The pattern of selection trials now used for all categories was introduced by him for ladies as early as 2012. He was the non-playing captain of the ladies’ team for many years. It was a very tough job keeping the peace and everyone happy…A job that he did with great panache while thoroughly enjoying every moment.
The Delhi Gymkhana Annual Tournament has always been an event to look forward to. He ensured good participation, with great organization and outstanding hospitality! It was indeed for a good reason that the Delhi Gymkhana Administration gave him a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to promoting bridge in the club, in Delhi, in India and Internationally.
I was blessed to have known him.
You will always be missed, but you have passed the baton on to Ashwajit whose love for bridge is very endearing and who shares your talent for organisation and hospitality.

An accomplished and deeply respected bridge player, Kawaljit Singh brought not only skill and insight to the table but also a rare sense of camaraderie and joy. For him, bridge was never just about the cards — it was about the friendships forged across the table, the laughter between hands, and the shared love of a beautiful and challenging game.
Those who played with him will fondly remember his sharp mind, his generous spirit, and the easy grace with which he made every table feel more welcoming. Whether in competition or in casual play, he embodied the true spirit of the game and the fellowship it brings.
Though he has now played his final hand among us, the memories of countless deals, conversations, and moments of brilliance will remain part of the rich fabric of our bridge community.
