At the outset, the Kairali Bridge Association (KBA) and BridgeFromHome team would like to thank all of you for your phenomenal response to the event.
A participation of 30 teams and 55 pairs for any event, especially one competing with a plethora of live events, to say nothing of the wedding season, can only be achieved by the love of the game.
At least two fancied teams would have been disappointed to see themselves out of the list of qualifers that emerged from the tough competition yesterday. One of them was leading at the half way stage and was regarded by many as a shoo in to qualify. However, teams like Tasher Desh, who ultimately finished second in the league, Cacophonix, who won the league and Bidders, who staged a late comeback to grab 6th spot did not allow themselves to be fazed by big names and duly qualified.Other qualifiers were Manyawar, an expected team, Sarla, who put in a strong performance in the second half of the event and Guptas.
Not enough can be said about the veteran A S Gupta. To be playing the level of bridge that he does at his age is something a lot of us would give an arm and a leg for. Apart from mental agility, this also requires physical fitness, which is something a lot of us approaching (or just past) senior citizenship status would do well to remember.
