Love is Pain

V N Ramamoorthy

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As bridge players, we often ask ourselves "What is it with this game? Is it a pain or pleasure?"

To that, the only answer is "Can there be pleasure without pain?"

Like Emily Bronte wrote almost 200 years ago in her book, "Wuthering Heights " , love is pain 🙃

Indeed, Wuthering Heights or Abysmal Lows  are two sides of the same coin in Bridge!

Bridge players prefer to be Heads, rather than Tails. But mostly, the majority is always in the middle 😃

The simple truth is, there can be no heads or tails without the middle! Even in ordinary life & society, the middle class is the majority 😅

Some days you shine like the Sun and the next day you are like a new moon behind the cloud cover!

Yes, some days you take the role of Midas, whatever you bid, play or defend is all Gold. Some other days, you are like a pauper begging for alms ( or imps?), getting kicked and shoved by all and sundry 😇

This game is an enigma or a myth! You get more pleasure out of pain and vice versa!

But you never give up. The bug has bitten you - and bitten good with venom 💀💧💀. There is no escape from this hell of a heaven!

So don't give up. Who knows, tomorrow may be the day for you at the top of the Wuthering Heighst 🥰

Happy Bridging
