Why does one play bridge? aka Me too

V N Ramamoorthy

Ladies and Gentlemen,

"Me too" in Bridge has become viral!

Do you play bridge for enjoyment, the adrenaline it pumps up, comradeship, to kill the ennui or for qinning?

Hard to answer that, right? But the best answer could be for all those factors and more!

Bridge, is not a sport ( I can feel eyebrows going up), it is an animal of a different kind alright 😇

For some it is a pet, for some others it is a wild beast, for majority it is bull fight or a wild goose chase!

Some players are funsters, some punters and a sizeable are hunters 🙂

The wise thing to say is " I play for pleasure, incidentally if I win it is icing on the cake". Politically that is the stand one takes!

All said and done, who doesn't want to win? Who doesn't appreciate an applause, a pat on the back, a congratulation?

Finishing 7th in an Individual event with a crowd of 700 ( vs) finishing 1/2/3 with a regular, established partner in a pair event of 80 pairs - which is more laudable? It is not Hobson's choice 😢

With the advent of on line version and with its increased presence, the podium finishers needed a fillip - especially the newcomers, upcoming players who rarely pip the post to finish in the podium. So yours sincerely started blogging on daily basis to commemorate the podium winners. And to use the platform to tell interesting stories, anecdotes and to write about stellar players, past and present.

Many times I got calls from players who made it to the top - to say " More than winning I wanted to see my name in your blog! 😌"

Me too, wanted to be visiting the podium as often as I could 😃.

So put your best foot forward, Ladies and Gentlemen - you have every right to dream and say " Me too " !

Happy bridging
Cheers
VNR

  1. I play Bridge for the satisfaction of either making the contract or (if I’m defending) setting the contract.

Although starting with physical Bridge session, the pandemic forced us to learn to play online and… I’m now addicted to this online past-time.

Not just playing, but also reading good books on Bridge, learning new gadgets/conventions and setting/answering Quizzes on Bridge online on WhatsApp groups. 😉
