Rajasthan State Bridge Championships – A Report

The Championship

In the recently concluded Rajasthan State Bridge Championship 2022 on Sunday the 13th of March 2022 played in Jai Club ,Jaipur Team Rajputana won the coveted BB MATHUR TROPHY for Teams. The winning Rajputana team consisted of Puneet Gangal, S K Sharma, K P Mathur, N K Sharma, Anand Toshniwal and Som Mittal

With an International in their ranks, Rajputana beat Bikana by 24 IMPS over 3 sessions of 8 boards each. The final scoreline read 62 imps to 38.

Rajputana won the first segment 15-8 and the next 28-7. Bikana won the last segment 23-19, but failed to make up the leeway of the first 2 segments.

In the IMP Pairs for the Toshniwal Trophy- Suresh Mehta playing with his wife Pushpa, emerged victorious with a score of 26 IMPS in 22 boards. They were closely followed by Praveen Khanna n Daulat Singhvi with a tally of 21 IMPS and KP Mathur and NK Sharma with 13.
In the concluding function the Chief Editor of Dainik Navjyoti n President of Rajasthan Contract Bridge Association Shri DB Gupta gave away the prizes.

Puneet Gangal honored

The Rajasthan Contract Bridge Association also took the opportunity of honoring their International Star - PUNEET GANGAL during the prize giving ceremony. The President of the RCBApresented a glittering trophy to Mr.Gangal.

Puneet Gangal has been performing admirably since his first foray into competitive Bridge in 1984.

Starting at the tender age of 8, Gangal has participated in 3 Olympiads out of which one was in the Seniors Teams. The team finished around 20th in a field of around 60 in Lille - France.

He has won several awards in international team competitions, the latest of which was the Dubai International held recently in 2021.

He is the latest winner of the Shree Cement Pairs, the Match Point Pairs National Championship. He has also won another major pairs championship, the Suhas Vaidya Memorial Pairs Championship conducted this year.
