Ladies and Gentlemen
It takes every kind of person to make the quixotic bridge world.
No lack of variety - casual, serious, tournament, social, rubber and friendly - take your pick.
But the nuance of winning at bridge table is when you are able to be casually serious or vice versa. Confusing? It must be!
Optimism is a welcome trait for bridge players. Because being pessimistic does not pay any dividend, anyway 🙃
When you are a declarer and looking at the combined wealth with your dummy, you may be exasperated that there is no way out of this mess.
But wait a minute. Maybe the bridge Gods are kind to you. Like Alfred Sheinwold advocated "When things look gloomy, assume the cards lie in your favour" 🙂
Better to hope and pray than be remorseful and resigned. Because you have everything to gain and nothing to lose, anyway!
Like there is a "Golden hour" in human life, there is a "Golden minute" on the table - just grab it 😌
Be seriously casual externally and be casually serious in your mind. Difficult, yes, but not impossible 😌
Like the Ad Guru Peter Drucker famously quipped "They can copy my words, ape my actions or follow my style - but they can't copy my mind or creativity!"
So get ready for your next battle. In all seriousness, be casual 🙂
Happy bridging,
Cheers
