Smt. Laxmi Mujumdar Memorial – A Report

Kista and Usha Kabra lift Smt. Laxmi Mujumdar Memorial title

R. Krishnan (Kista) gave yet another example of why he is one of the best players in the country in the recently concluded Laxmi Mujumdar Memorial tournament yesterday.  Teaming up with Usha Kabra just days before the event was to start (and recovering from a cataract operation to boot), the pair emerged clear winners ahead of Rajendra Sirohia and Subashree Basu. Devi Bhatnagar, along with this author, was a close third a mere 0.07 VPs  (sorry unable to resist preening!).

36 pairs elected to participate in this event which was played over the weekend, including Friday evening. After 9 rounds of Swiss pairs, the field was bifurcated into Gold (16 teams) and Silver.

Both Sections played 6 rounds of 7 boards each. The toppers in the Gold section were as above. Click here for the full result.

The Silver section was topped by S. Bandhopadhyay (Bandyo) along with veteran Tutu Narula with a relative newcomer Bindiya Kohli along with T V Ramani taking the runners up spot. Sujata Puranik, along with Koushik Mukherjee took the third place. Click here for the full result.

This tournament has been sponsored by Shri Diwakar Mujumdar, a resident of Jaipur, for the second year running. Unfortunately, he was unable to participate this year. We sorely missed his presence.

BridgeFromHome, on behalf of all bridge players, would like to thank him profusely for his support to the game and hope that he would continue to do so on a regular basis.

We would like to remind you about the upcoming Wednesday Wonders on the 22nd of June.  We propose to maintain a minimum prize purse of Rs. 5,000 every week. However, that is possible only if we get a regular response of a minimum of 20 pairs. Else, the event will not be self supporting.

This will provide another good opportunity to practice just before the nationals. Do participate in large numbers
