Willingdon National Bridge – Day 2

Sukrit Vijayakar
Teerthraj Chowdhury with his father and partner, Debraj

Hello friends,
It gives me great pleasure to tell all of you that a 13 year old boy, Tirthraj Chowdhury, and his father Debraj, finsished in first place at the end of the classification stage of the Swiss Pairs.

To say that their performance is remarkable is an understatement. Not only does it speak well of the young lad for his stupendous performance, but it speaks volumes of the dedication showed by his father not only towards the game in general, but also towards developing his children. Teertharaj's elder brother, Tilakraj also finished in 7th place along with his partner, Taral Rodrigues.

Another heartening point to note was the number of women who finished in the top 32 to participate in Group A of the trifurcation tomorrow. While we have Vasanti Shah and Gopika Tandan, a ladies pair, at 26th place after playing consistently at the top tables throughout the first two days, we also have a number of ladies performers featuring in the top 32. To start from the top we have

  1. Meenu Duggal with Anindra Sarkar and Soumadeep Ghosh in 9th place
  2. Hema Deora with Bhabesh Saha in 12th place
  3. Anu Jalan with Sourendra Coomer Dutt in 16th place
  4. Subashree Basu with Soham Sarkar in 20th place
  5. Uma Rajesh with P. Sridharan in 23rd place
  6. Varsha Jain with N Rajmohan and Ian Concessio in 27th place
  7. Kalindi Mewar with Paban Agarwal and Joyrup Mullick in in 32nd place

The complete results can be seen here.

Today, we will have the field split into 3 groups of Ranks 1 to 32, 33 to 64 and 65 onwards battling out for prizes in the Gold Silver and Bronze Categories.

We wish participants all the best.

We are also sharing a few photographs of the days proceedings. I would like to apologize to Binod Shaw for omitting to give him credit for his pics of round 2 yesterday. The only excuse I have is sheer exhaustion.
