Reflections on Willingdon Swiss Pairs

The Willingdon Sports Club Bridge Tournament concluded yesterday. Here are a few observations and thoughts (all my own work).

First of all, the participation levels exceeded the best expectations of the organizers and for that, they thank all of you profusely.

Secondly, I have to say that the quality of food provided was absolutely superb. And I say this as a foodie. I found it hard to stick to my diet really. Hats off to the catering team of the club!

From a play perspective, the ultimate winners, Binod Shaw, Sanjit Dey and Simon deserve a huge round of applause for vaulting from 9th position at the start of round 5 to win the event.

But, for me, the highlight of the event was the performance of the two youngsters Tilakraj Chowdhury and Taral Rodrigues. They played consistently throughout the first two days to end the qualifying league in 10th position in a field of 117 participants. In the finals too, they acquitted themselves creditably, finishing 13th out of 32 qualifiers. May they go from strength to strength.

Mavericks Prodigies

The emergence of the Mavericks team has taken the Indian bridge world by storm this year. But we have to hand it to Subodh Maskara for thinking beyond the present. He has formulated a team made primarily of youngsters to make a good Indian bridge team for the future. Called Mavericks Prodigies, the team shall consist of the following players

Anshul Bhatt
Joyrup Mullick
Pijush Baroi
Pritam Das
Sabyasachi Sadhukan

According to Subodh, he is investing in the future of Indian bridge.

We can only applaud him for taking this step and hope other generous sponsors also develop similar teams.

Valentine's Day Pairs

BridgeFromHome will be hosting a Valentine's day special event on the 14th of February at 630 pm. The total prize purse for the event is a minimum of Rs. 10,000. This, of course, is subject to a minimum participation of 20 pairs. We invite all of you participate in large numbers in this event.
