Bhagat Ram Memorial

Bhagat Ram was our batchmate in IIM Calcutta. He was easily the oldest member of our batch, ten years older than most other batchmates. The unique event that enabled this was a corporate sponsorship by his employees Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.

In spite of the age gap, he became one of us with ease.

We found a common love in bridge, and we represented IIM Calcutta in this amazing game.

His colleagues at work remember him as a great leader and Manager during eighties and nineties at HAL Lucknow. He was not only a remarkable leader at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited but also a source of inspiration and guidance to many colleagues. His dedication, vision, and integrity shaped the careers of countless individuals.

He was also Dean of ICFAI, Chandigarh from mid 2000s for many years. Many students fondly remember his contributions to their MBA education there.

Three decades after he left IIM Calcutta, we reconnected with him on BBO. He became part of our online team, Ashlesha.

He loved the game and played it for the pure intellectual pleasure, not agonizing over results.

He truly understood that bridge was a partnership game, and while he was a fantastic bridge player, he tolerated his partners’ mistakes with a very positive attitude. He made all his bridge partners better players.

We have never seen him lose his composure in bridge, as also in real life.

He was an integral part of our online team, Ashlesha, before he suddenly departed from us while on a flight travelling to USA in October 2024 to visit his daughter.

His friend Akhilesh remembers him as a multifaceted personality equally adept in innovative management practices, complex engineering analysis , team building skills and getting things done. Along with skills to excel in brain games like Bridge ,Stocks analysis, Chess, etc "

Jovial, remarkable leader, exceptional mentor, the adjectives are many from those who knew him in different stages of his life.

This memorial is set up rather late, but we do owe it to him …
