Message from the BFI President Elect

Subsequent to the BFI publishing the results of the elections conducted on 6th January 2024, the BFI President elect, Mr. Subodh Maskara, had this message for all bridge lovers. It is essentially a reiteration of the commitment made to the bridge populace prior to seeking election.

He has also invited people actively interested in furthering the cause to reach out and enunciate how they would help in improving bridge at all levels for everybody

Message from Mr. Maskara

Now that my election to the post of president has been formally announced, I would like to reiterate the agenda I had set forth prior to the elections.

  • We will publish the accounts of BFI on a quarterly basis before the end of 60 days of the quarter (or earlier) on the website
  • We will update the Ranking Points and Master Points of all players upto date and then on a real time basis by updating the current system via a software which is expensive and was not possible till now due to lack of funds.
  • We will develop a framework to work more closely with all state bridge federations so that development funds, tournament assistance, infra improvement for bridge can be planned.
  • We will try to ensure Elections for States will have players votes and announced well in advance for players to stand for posts and no monopoly of few individuals.
  • We will harmonize the tournament schedule such that the annual tournament calendar is published for each calendar year. By December end, the next calendar year, will be published enabling players to make arrangements much in advance to save costs.
  • We will launch a digital / physical interface to meet players / sponsors / state federal / technical staff on a regular basis to address their needs. All this will be open and transparent.
  • We will create advisory committees that ensure NO conflict of interest.
  • We will invest in digital infrastructure (BFI mobile app) so that each player can view real time all details regarding their RP and MP details.
  • We will create a compliance mechanism to ensure all state federations and BFI is compliant with the latest govt and court guidelines.
  • We will put to review all such policies and rules that are not serving the good of bridge and not keeping with worldwide good practices.
  • We will initiate the review of the ranking policy and selection trials with the objective to ensure the best representation from India for world events.
  • This is only in the first 100 days.

We assure you in subsequent 1,000 days every bridge player will notice / feel / the difference of transparency, inclusive decision making.

I want to do the above in all humility with the advice and guidance of all bridge players

Your commitments seem great and very useful for ordinary bridge lovers like us.
I beg to draw your kind attention in the below mentioned matters
1.Nepotism and favouritism in Indian bridge (You are intelligent enough to understand what I mean)
2.Unnecessary and pointless tours of officials
    3.Ranking points system
4.Playing atmosphere at non sponsored events like interstate championships,National Masters,Nationals etc
5.Improving quality of directors and their approach to junior/unknown/non sponsored players etc. rather than protecting the…….
6.For the last few years Entry Fees of some tournaments have been increased a lot,BFI may look into it seriously
7.Zero tolerance for all who behaves poorly on the table or in the venue

Sir, I hope you can do it as you have no personal agenda

Regards and all the best 🙏
    Partho Sarathi Mukherjee

  2. Best wishes to the new committee. We should try to make bridge as part of Inter school sports activity to promote this sport to make it visible to children as well as parents.
